I am SO beyond excited to introduce you to my dear friend and fellow BOSSBABE, Kealy of Empowered Mala. She has worked her buns off the last month or two to bring you some of the most gorgeous malas I have ever laid my eyes on. Kealy and I met on the water polo team in high school and instantly clicked. She is the most down to earth, nonjudgmental girl I know. She brings zero drama and people LOVE her everywhere she goes. I am so so so proud of all she has done and the woman she has become and I am so excited to walk by her side on this new journey. Be sure to check out her Etsy shop after reading this interview because SHE HAS LAUNCHED and you can now PURCHASE her one of a kind handmade malas!!
CJ: Tell us a little more about yourself
Kealy: Hi beauties, I’m Kealy! I live in Orange County living a blissful life making malas, going to yoga, meditating, attempting to eat healthy, and spending so much time with my fav people. I love love love to travel and go on adventures. I equally love rap, country, and everything in between. If I’m not making malas, I’m hitting the dance floor rapping my face off or singing karaoke. I graduated from UC Berkeley where I played water polo, GO BEARS!
CJ: What are your goals for this new venture?
Kealy: My goal really is to create an incredible community of empowered women. I’ve been a part of some truly incredible communities with like minded women that has been so beneficial for me. I want women to feel empowered! Every single human deserves their dream life and my goal is to help as many of them as I can. Empowered is so special to me because it isn’t about my success or me being able to help women. I want everyone to be empowered to go for their dreams! Empowerment is found from within, it isn’t something external that can be told to you. I don’t want women saying I wish I could be her, I want them to say I’m a bad ass and I want to be me just slaying life!
CJ: For those that do not know what malas are or the meaning behind them, can you explain it a little?
Kealy: Mala beads have a lot of tradition especially surrounding mantras and meditations. I did just launch a free PDF that has so much more detail you can check out! Mala beads are made up of 108 beads, a guru bead (representing the connection between guru and student), and a tassel (connection to the divine and each other). The 108 beads can be created with any gemstones or natural beads you would like. Different gemstones hold different energies that can energetically assist you in cultivating your set intention and they are GORGEOUS. I pick every gemstone, tassel, thread and hand make them all, there is a knot in-between each bead, which takes me about 2 hours to make for each mala. Mantras are said to be complete after repeating 100 times, there are 108 beads to allow for errors in your mantra. You will repeat your mantra for each bead and the knot in-between beads is to help you keep count.
CJ: You’re very inspiring and a total #BOSSBABE! Did you always see yourself wanting to start your own business?
Kealy: You’re too sweet! No! It’s funny because I have heard a few women talk about it and I had the same experience. I’ve just always felt a deeper calling and like I am meant to do more. Of course, that was on a subconscious level, I wasn’t actively thinking that. It was just a feeling of not fitting into standard jobs. I’ve always felt like my instincts were wrong because they didn’t follow the companies status quo. That brought a lot of self doubt for me. I literally thought I just need to get married, so I don’t have to work because I can’t be fulfilled at a job (I know crazy!). Then I made the best decision in my life to invest in myself and get help from a coach. In that process I discovered that becoming an entrepreneur is my true north, my deepest desire, my goal. After that it was an organic process of feeling like there was something missing in the mala market space and trying to fill that space. My creativity has been unleashed and this is the first of many desires I have for the entrepreneurial path I’m on.
CJ: Any advice for others wanting to start their own business? Books to read? People to follow?
Kealy: Yes yes yes!!!! First, if you feel unsure freaking invest in yourself! You have to work through all of your fears and road blocks before you can launch your own business. If you don’t you may not be in alignment and then it will be such a harder path. I don’t mean invest in a business coach, I mean more of a life coach that can help you up level your personal life. My girl Cait Scudder is the shiz! Female Entrepreneur Association by Carrie Green is incredible and gives you tangible tutorials. Also Carrie’s book She Means Business! Awakening Shakti omg is the best book to work with different goddess energies! Just research- I went crazy and started following so many bad ass boss babes. Not surprising there are SO MANY out there.
CJ: We’re all VERY excited for you to open up your Etsy store! Can you let us know anything else you have planned for the future?!
Kealy: So every month I’m going to have a featured mala of the month, that will be available for 30 days and have a limited quantity. I just secured a spot at the Yoga Expo in LA on January 6th, where I can meet you beautiful souls and you can check out my pieces in person! I will also be doing custom pieces, but what I am SO STOKED about is my DIY mala box and this is why. Having a mala is awesome, but because of the labor involved they can cost a bit much. So I wanted to offer something that not only was a bit cheaper, but also gives you beautiful goddesses the chance to make your own mala! Pick your gemstone, thread, tassel, guru bead, all of it and get those creative juices flowing. I will have a step by step tutorial video as well as a live Q and A to help you through the process. It is so beautiful wearing something that is a labor of love and helps you cultivate your dreams. I will also be launching a coaching business/overall brand Empowered Goddess to help bad ass babes up level their lives like BOOM!
I want to thank you Chantelly Liebling (my BLUC) for featuring me and also being such a beautiful support in my life. I’m honored that you are an Empowered Male ambassador!!!!! You are the best and everyone should connect with you.
