How did my health journey start? About 5 years ago, I was 20-25 lbs. heavier and it started to become something I couldn’t cope with. It caused me a lot of stress and made me extremely insecure. I ate healthy for the most part and worked hard at the gym but no matter what I did, the weight just wasn’t going ANYWHERE. If anything, I was slowly gaining more weight. And that stressed me out to the max. It was a constant battle and the stress just seemed to increase with every passing week.
At one point, I worked with an online fitness coach who told me how to work out and how to eat. He had me eating super clean and balancing protein and carbs. But he also had me eating 5 times a day. Even though the meals were much smaller, I couldn’t do it. I used to have to force myself to eat 5 times a day. It was making me sick and I was extremely miserable. My body was NOT happy.
Every day I would check in with him and send him my workouts and meals. At the end of each week, I would have to weigh myself and report back to him. Every week, I got a little heavier. He told me I was just building muscle and that in a couple weeks, the fat would start to melt away. Well, guess what? It didn’t.
He was in disbelief because it had worked for other clients but it wasn’t working for me (Shocker! This is why one type does not fit all..)
After weeks of frustration and lots of tears, I ended up breaking up with him and that is when my own health journey started.
I began paying attention to my body more. I changed my WHY. I started researching everything I was eating and making tweaks to my food. I cleaned up so many things. I worked out differently. I was SUPER excited to learn and become in sync with my body. My stress levels started to decrease and my happiness increased. I was no longer worried about getting skinny so that I could find my future husband (another thing I stressed out way too much over). I was more concerned with becoming independent and working out/eating well to live a long life and beat diseases.
The slow habit changes I incorporated into my everyday life eventually led to much bigger changes.
Eating healthy became less and less of a chore because I started to crave healthy food and how it made me feel.
I remember the day I realized I was on the right path. I was sitting in my bed with my balcony doors wide open and sipping my coffee, waking up slow. Out of nowhere, I just started smiling SO BIG and thought to myself, “Wow, I feel SO good. I am so happy. AND…I’m not even worried about meeting someone. I’m going to work so hard on myself and in my career so that I can make enough money to adopt and raise a kid on my own. I will make the best dang single mom.”
That was HUGE for me. Like, HUGEEEE. I still remember that day so clearly.
Now, here I am, married to an amazing man and still working on myself every single day because our bodies are constantly changing. I’m excited to say that I’ve mastered listening to my body and giving it what it needs and wants. There are times where I do get carried away and drink too much beer or eat too many unhealthy meals but I’m quick to get back on track without getting mad at myself. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve learned and that is what led me to wanting to become a health coach. I remember how insecure, miserable and lost I was. But I found myself and my happiness and I want to help others do the same!
